How the count is worked out
Servings come from area, not from diameter. Doubling the diameter does not double the slices, it roughly quadruples them: a 30 cm cake has more than twice the surface of a 20 cm one. The calculator divides the cut area by the footprint of one slice, then rounds down. Height matters too, because a tall layer cake is cut into narrower slices than a single-layer cake for the same amount of cake per person.
Worked example
A 20 cm round layer cake gives 23 event slices. Priced at 15 MAD a slice, that supports a cake price of about 345 MAD. Sizing the cake first and pricing per slice second is how you stop underselling a big order.

Generous home slices come out roughly 40 percent lower than the numbers above. A square tin feeds more than a round tin of the same nominal size because it cuts on a clean grid with no wasted edge.

- How many slices are in a 20 cm cake?
- A 20 cm round layer cake gives about 23 event slices or 13 generous home slices. A single-layer 20 cm round gives about 13 event slices. The height of the cake changes the answer as much as the diameter does.
- What size cake do I need for 20 guests?
- A 20 cm round layer cake covers 20 guests with event slices. If you are cutting generous home portions, step up to 25 cm. Switch the calculator to guest mode and it picks the smallest tin that works.
- Why does a square cake serve more than a round one?
- A square tin of 20 cm holds 400 square centimetres of cake; a round tin of 20 cm holds about 314. The square also cuts on a clean grid with no irregular edge pieces, so less is wasted. That is why the table above gives square cakes a higher count at the same nominal size.
- Should I bake extra?
- Add about 10 percent. Guests who come back for a second slice, a piece that breaks when it is lifted, and the slice you keep for the person who arrives late all come out of the same cake. The calculator shows the padded number next to the raw one.
- How do I turn servings into a price?
