How the calculator works
A fair price covers everything you put in, then leaves a real profit. This tool adds your ingredients, your time and your overhead to get your true cost, then applies your margin to get a selling price.
The formula
Cost price = ingredients + (time x hourly rate) + overhead. Selling price = cost price divided by (1 minus your margin).
A worked example
A batch of 20 cookies costs 60 DH in ingredients, takes 2 hours at 35 DH per hour (70 DH) and 15 DH of overhead. Total cost is 145 DH, so 7.25 DH per cookie. With a 45% margin, each cookie sells for about 13 DH.
FAQ
- How do I price my cakes as a home baker?
- Add your ingredient cost, the value of your time and your overhead (energy, packaging), then add a margin. Never price only on ingredients: your time is the biggest hidden cost. This calculator does the math for you in dirhams.
- What profit margin should I use?
- Many home bakers aim for 40 to 60% margin once time and overhead are counted. Lower and you barely pay yourself, higher and you may price out of your market. Start around 45% and adjust to your area.
- Should I include my own time in the price?
- Yes, always. Forgetting your time is the number one reason home bakers sell at a loss without knowing it. Set an hourly rate you are happy with and include every hour, decorating and cleanup included.
- How much can I earn selling cakes from home?
- It depends on your margin and how many orders you take. This calculator estimates your monthly income from your price and your orders per week, so you can see a real target.
